Cambodia Legal Alert: Deadline Fast Approaching for Work Permit Renewals

March 19, 2019

As you may be aware, according to the applicable regulations, employers of foreign employees are required to ensure that they obtain a work permit and employment card (“Work Permit”), and that such Work Permit is renewed with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training (“MLVT”) on an annual basis.

With respect to 2019 Work Permit renewals, the applications must be submitted to the MLVT by 31 March 2019. Any application submitted after this deadline may be rejected.

Failure to obtain a proper Work Permit renewal for 2019 may result in penalties under the Labor Law. We therefore urge all employers to renew Work Permits for their foreign employees on time to avoid rejection or possible penalties.

Please note that the deadline above is for renewals only and does not apply to newly-hired foreign employees registering with the MLVT for the first time. Such Work Permits can be applied for any time after a new foreign employee begins working.

If you have already renewed your employees’ Work Permits, please disregard this email.

If you have any questions regarding this update, please contact me ([email protected]) or Mr. Alex Larkin ([email protected]).
