Fernando has over 10 years of experience as a lawyer, academic and author. He was previously the managing partner of MXLaw Firm. Previously he served for Indonesia Chamber of Trade and Industry (KADIN) Jakarta, as their in-house legal expert, looking after all legal aspects of their business operations.
In addition, prior his practices at MXLaw Firm and Larasati & Manullang, he was appointed as a research expert and consultant to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (2001-2003) to oversee the legal aspects related to the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements and consult on the draft trade law governing all commercial and trade activities in Indonesia. In 2001, he was appointed as legislative counsel by the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia to assist the Fraction of Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle, the ruling party of the president at that time.
During his years as practicing lawyer, Fernando has been involved in major project financing, private equity and M&A deals in Indonesia. He specializes in international trade law, arbitration and litigation.
Fernando has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia since 2000, and other schools of law in Jakarta, including Joint Law Masters Program held by Faculty of Law, University of Pancasila and Indonesian Navy National Forces.
He obtained his law degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia and his doctorate in philosophy from the Department of Philosophy, University of Indonesia. He has had his articles on jurisprudence and legal philosophy published in several legal journals and has written a number of books on various legal topics.
He is a member of the Indonesian Bar Association.
