Amendments to Myanmar Customs Tariff
May 6, 2026The Ministry of Finance and Revenue issued Notification No. 49/2026 on 30 March 2026, introducing amendments to the Customs Tariff of Myanmar 2022, previously prescribed under Notification No. 84/2022. The revised customs duty rates will take effect from 1 May 2026.
The amendments are intended to support domestic cultivation, local production, and manufacturing by adjusting tariff protections on selected imported goods. The key tariff changes by product category are summarized below, showing the increase compared to previous rates:
Significant Tariff Changes by Product Category:
- Fish and Seafood Products: Increasing from 5% to 15%.
- Motorcycle (Tires/Tubes): Increasing from 5% to 10%.
- Milk & Dairy Products: Increasing from 3% to 5%.
- Snacks and Food Products: Increasing from 15% to 20%
These tariff changes affect consumers, producers, and trade differently depending on the product category. For essential imported goods and raw materials, the increased costs may lead to rising consumer prices and create minor challenges in supply chain operations, while domestic producers may benefit from reduced competition in the market. Overall, tariffs can help support local industries, while potentially leading to slight increases in consumer costs and some additional considerations for trade and production.
Please refer to the notification 49/2016 for further details on the Customs Tariff.
