Myanmar’s first dry port to commence construction

June 30, 2017

VDB Loi provided counsel to the Ministry of transport and Communications (Myanma Railways) on its recent announcement of Myanmar’s  first dry port. The two-year project is a UNESCAP (United Nations Economic Social  Commission Asia Pacific) agreement between governments.

Domestic firm Resource Logistics and Hong Kong-based firm Kerry Logistics were awarded the construction contracts. Construction is due to commence in June 2017 in the Amarapura Township, Mandalay Region, once the transfer of lands is complete. Customs clearance can be completed at the dry port and then loaded on board which negates the need for customs clearance in Yangon. The port itself will eventually join the Belt and Road network through the planned railway.

VDB Loi’s team was led by  Senior Partner Edwin Vanderbruggen and legal associates from our team in Yangon and Naw Pyi Taw.
