Latham & Watkins LLP and VDB Loi advise as Government of Union of Myanmar privatizes jet fuel distribution

June 25, 2014

Myanmar legal advisory firm VDB Loi and global law firm Latham & Watkins LLP are advising the Government of the Union of Myanmar with respect to its privatization and corporatization of the Government’s jet fuel distribution business. The import, storage and distribution of jet fuel in the country is currently a quasi-monopoly of the state-owned Myanmar Petroleum Products Enterprise (MPPE). MPPE services most of the 10 airports in Myanmar, particularly Yangon’s Mingaladon and Mandalay’s international airports.

The Government seeks a joint venture partner to continue MPPE’s existing jet fuel distribution business as a privatized entity. An international tender is underway to select a joint venture partner for the import, storage and distribution of jet fuel initially at the Mingaladon Airport, with the possibility of extending the business nationwide.

Local counsel VDB Loi is teamed up with Latham & Watkins LLP’s Singapore based lawyers Stephen McWilliams, John MacKay and Rod Brown.
