New Rules for Government Tenders
Myanmar has precious little regulation governing Government tenders, but what it does have, has just been revamped and enlarged. Presidential Notification 1/2017 dated 10 April 2017 (the Notification) has reset and strengthened rules on certain types of Government procurement.

Conceptually, industrial design protection has been in the statute books since the Design and Patents Act 1945 (the “1945 Act”).   • Myanmar Company Law 2017
    This law is changed entirly.
     
  • Bill on Myanmar History Board Law 2017
    Newly drafted to make the researches and records on Burma History and documentation on Burma history.
RECENT VDB LOI WORK
  • Trend setting Asian bilateral DFI puts VDB Loi on retainer: After a rigorous comparison and selection process, our firm was selected as local counsel by the highly influential DFI of an Asian capital exporting country.
     
  • Hydropower consortium engages Energy Team: Two of the consortium partners of a large hydropower project have now retained VDB Loi to help restructure and adjust the project to new policies and preferences by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
     
  • Chinese financial institution retains VDB Loi: A financial institution from the PRC has engaged VDB Loi as local counsel for a financial transaction under consideration in the power sector.
     
  • European DFI chooses VDB Loi for financing transaction: A Development Financial Institution located in Europe has picked VDB Loi as its counsel to advise in connection with the funding of a microfinance company in Myanmar.
     
  • Distribution group seeks to restructure import structure: Our Corporate and our Tax teams are helping an import and trade group with the restructuring of their activity in Myanmar.
     
  • VDB Loi acts on labour dispute: Our Disputes team and partners are providing advice and representation to a corporate client embroiled in an employment disputes involving compensation.

  • An astounding 25% to 33% of the approved (MIC) investments in Myanmar obtained MIC permits through VDB Loi.
     
  • We were involved in 5 out of 7 power projects signed in 2016!
     
  • We created exclusively dedicated practice teams as well as launched new ones, such as Disputes and Energy.
     
  • We obtained licenses, permits and helped set up financial institutions, telecom operators, security firms, and airlines.
     
  • We built on our expertise acting for the Government in the petroleum products sector, our Energy Team was the obvious choice for additional engagements in fuel and fuel infrastructure in 2016.
     
  • We continue to have the confidence of the Government who engages us in a number of transactions in energy, transport, and telecom.
