Myanmar is undertaking a series of reforms, both in terms of laws and policies, that strengthen the country’s attractiveness for energy and infrastructure projects. Many of these reforms, although they are crucial, are not widely known outside of Myanmar.

Parliament to Pass New Law Affecting Upstream Oil & Gas Sector

Parliament is currently debating a bill on petroleum exploration, drilling, and production, which is intended to apply to both offshore and onshore activities. The law will mainly repeal outdated regulations from the 1950s and intends to serve as a way of organizing the sector. Read more…

RECENT VDB LOI WORK
  • International IPO: VDB Loi is advising an international market leader in the natural resources sector on Myanmar law aspects of a proposed initial public offering on one of the world’s major stock exchanges.
     
  • Trademark advice for education leader: Our Corporate M&A Team recently assisted a leading international education group as part of its brand expansion. Our team assisted in the trademark assignment process allowing its Myanmar subsidiary to use IP Rights associated with its international brand.
     
  • Advice to global investment giant: An overseas investment conglomerate sought VDB Loi’s expert advice on its infrastructure projects in Myanmar, including negotiations with the government, setting out terms and drafting agreements. The projects attracted much publicity, due to their social, political and economic significance for the country.
     
  • European supported water project chooses VDB Loi: Our Energy Infrastructure Team will be advising a leading European engineering group on its proposed water treatment and distribution project.
     
  • VDB Loi continues its strong work in the microfinance market: Our Banking and Finance Team assisted a large European government organization, and its issuing of loans to a Myanmar microfinance company working with local agricultural producers.
