Obtaining an MIC Permit, the popular name for Myanmar’s general investment license issued by the Myanmar Investment Commission or “MIC”, is a significant investment of resources for foreign investors. The preparation of the proposal and its annexes, when armed with detailed practical experience regarding the MIC process, can save applicants significant time and costs.

Moreover, when it comes to foreign financing and securities, lenders and borrowers would do well not just to take notice of the applicable laws, but also to familiarize themselves with the actual practice of the authorities and other stakeholders, to get a financing deal through. What is more, as international lending is new in Myanmar, more often than not rules or precedents do not exist and one needs to work with the authorities and sometimes other stakeholders to find a way forward for each individual case.

VDB Loi Partners Jean Loi and Edwin Vanderbruggen and VPBank Securities Managing Director, Head of Research, Barry David Weisblatt will present on the following topic:

  • Financing with security onshore?
  • Signed and sealed – first onshore financing deals completed
  • Top 5 mistakes when applying for an MIC Permit
  • Getting land rights in the right company: practical experience
  • How much capital is required for a project by the MIC?
  • Requirement for local partner: practice of the MIC
  • Approval for shareholder loan by the central bank: what are the conditions?
  • Special issues for real estate, telecom, financial services and distribution
